I am trying to setup a new Shelly device. I have it powered up and can associate with the access point. I did this for another Shelly device several days ago. I had problems then because I didn’t completely understand the instructions, but when I figured out my error everything was simple and obvious. It was so simple and obvious that I didn’t write down the steps! I did not install the Shelly app on my phone at that time. I think that I configured the device through HA. However, today when I try to add a new device under the Shelly devices, it can’t connect to the IP address. The new Shelly device is still acting like an access point and has an IP of 192.168.33.2. I have posted a question on the Shelly forum but this seems more like a HA issue. Actually, it is an issue with the operator (me)!
Describe exactly what you did.
Originally I powered up the Shelly device and only accessed it through my phone by associating with the Shelly access point. That would not allow me to enter the SSID. I opened HA settings/devices/Shelly and tried to find a new device, but it couldn’t find it. It wasn’t associated with my network at that time. I think that was different than when I configured a Shelly device several days ago, but can’t be sure. Today I loaded the Shelly app, which I did not do with my first Shelly device, and was able to configure it. Now I have it added to my default dashboard. I have another Shelly switch to configure and will try to find/configure it through HA first, like I remember doing before. Then update with the results. If that doesn’t work I will use the Shelly app. BTW, the Shelly switch has an entity ‘input 0’ (just a single switch). Can I toggle the switch ‘on’ from the dashboard?
I just added another new Shelly switch. Again, I had to use the Shelly app on my phone to get the switch on my network. However, it is now on my network, configured (with a static IP) and added to my dashboard.
Did you maybe switch to that wifi AP and configure your network credentials via a browser by going to 192.168.33.2? That’s what I recall doing 3+ years ago when I first installed Shelly - I never had to install the app and they worked just fine.
Great story but… you have not provided any specific information.
Is the device using your WiFi network (IP address indicates no)?
If so, what is the IP of the device and what is the IP of your local network?
Is the device in the same VLAN as the HA server?
