Problems with Matter over Thread

I’m running Home Assistant 2025.11.2 and recently I’ve been having trouble adding Matter over Thread devices, and having some devices that used to work becoming unavailable. My primary thread border router is an Apple TV 4K running iOS 26.1 and it’s possible my problems started after upgrading to iOS 26, but I can’t confirm.

I have a small number of Matter devices. I have an Inovelli White Switch that is ‘Unavailable’, but is available in Apple Home. I have two new Nest 4th gen thermostats of which I was able to add one, but not the other using the pairing code provided by the Google Home application. I have a couple Lafaer presence sensors. One was installed several months ago and seems to be working, but a new one will not pair, although it does install just fine in Apple Home.

I just purchased an Aqara FP3 and have been able to pair it with Apple Home, but not Home Assistant. I decided to see if getting a dedicated Aqara hub (M100) might help with the FP3 and while I’ve been able to add the FP3 to the Aqara hub, I have been unable to add the hub to Home Assistant.

At this point I’m not sure exactly what I should try to either make things work, or to at least get some diagnostics which might help. Fortunately none of the devices are crucial, and most I can control via Apple Home, but obviously I would prefer to use Home Assistant.

Any help or tips on resolving or getting diagnostic information would be appreciated.

After you attempt to commission a device, post the Matter Server logs to see what it says.

I finally discovered the Matter Server itself, I was only looking at the Matter integration. The logs were showing a large number of errors unrelated to the adding of the device. A quick search via AI suggested that there were probably bad nodes hanging around. I deleted those, restarted the actual server, and using the server, instead of the integration, I was able to add additional Matter devices. The log also is not reporting errors.

Thanks for your suggestion!
