I would like to do something like this guy did. The remote he used is apparently not available anymore and he suggests this one as an alternative. However it comes with a dongle (says 2.4G wireless), so I’m not sure how its signals would get picked up by HA. Anyone know? Via my Broadlink hub, maybe?
Go back one step. What protocol did your original remote control use? 38kHz, 2.4Hz, 433Mhz? Optical/infrared, wireless?
Your replacement will have to emulate that. That is what the Broadlink tries to do too.
Right. I have the Broadlink minimally controlling the TV in response to Alexa commands now, so I’m good with that part. I’m not clear about how to get the commands from the remote into HA to trigger the automations.
Those remotes/dongle emulate a keyboard, really.
