As part of a whole house monitoring solution, I created sensors to monitor when my heat pump electric or auxiliary heat is running, monitor when the humidifier attached to heat pump is running, if any leaks are found in the overflow drain pan, and if the power is out and I’m on generator, it decouples the 2nd stage heat from the electric heat. I topped it off by adding a MQ-135 smoke sensor and DHT22 temp/humidity sensor. Who else here goes deeper into actual monitoring of household appliances like water heaters and furnaces? The basement version is POE powered and the Attic version is powered from the 24v AC transformer in the heat pump.

I do water after the freezing Christmas eve that busted a water line and had a leak 2 years ago! I have a ball valve on the water main and can turn it off manually, automatically, or with an automation since it also has has a flow meter to catch leaks and to compare against my water bill… Somebody’s gotta keep those people honest or else they’ll bill you for whatever sounds good lol.
I also use a solenoid on the line that feeds my irrigation along with another flow meter to track irrigation water use vs house water use and to isolate the irrigation supply or house supply depending on where the leak is detected. It would suck to have to kill the house water supply if the leak was in the irrigation and now i can.

Setup control boxes for 2 water features i built. It controls the pump, resevoir heater, 2 float switches, 2 IR overflow sensors as a backup to the 2 float switches, control accent lights shining on water flowing down rocks and a solenoid with flow meter to automatically refill the resevoirs when they get to low in the resevoir from evaporation and what not.

I already had an existing irrigation system (rainbird). I do have automation to turn off the outside faucets if the temp. outside gets to low. The outside lights do not turn on at dark if temp. is above 60 to prevent spider web buildup around the fixtures in warmer weather.
I could show you the secret stuff but then id have to “unalive” you! Muhahaha!
