PSA - Insteon PLM - HA Users: Check your broken links

Recently migrated from an Insteon serial PLM + ISY to USB PLM direct to HA. After having a load of weirdness after pairing everything, I stumbled upon the Utilities → Broken Links section of the Insteon config. Lots of missing connections, pairing to the wrong devices, and duplicates. Took a lot of work, but after cleaning things up, it all works better. Don’t always take the recommendation that “Broken Links” gives you, unless you’re sure about it. I usually inspect the ALDB on the device itself and make some decisions there. The “Add Default Links” function in the device editor is also great for making sure the devices are properly linked to the PLM with both control and responder.

Yeh recently setup HA Green and went through 2 rounds of connecting back up the eisy and restore modem before getting it right. Mostly related to final Insteon device changes I wanted to make before final cutover, but also because I got too aggressive with HA Insteon Integration broken links fixes without testing.

I now have 7 broken links in my table after my last restore modem. But a combination of looking at the scenes in HA Insteon Integration and actually testing the behavior… they’re staying there for good. Also, I have lamp modules with a 2.5 minute fade up in a scene only, not default for the device… I don’t think that’s possible for the Insteon integration to set (currently), but works when HA calls the Insteon scene after configuring the scene with eisy.

The Insteon integration also discovered devices that have never existing on that modem. Deleted them but no idea where they came from.
