Question about Nanoleaf shapes thread function

I have four Nanoleaf shapes.

As far as I know the shapes are only communicating via 2.4Gh-Wlan and the thread network is only useful if you want to use them via thread. Since I use the shapes in HA via the Nanoleaf integration I don’t use the thread function of the shapes.

In the Nanoleaf app and the HA thread extension I can see that the shapes have their own thread network on channel 25.

My zigbee network runs at channel 25. I wonder if this is the same channel that the Shapes use and whether it could cause interference.

If that’s the case, it might be better to disable the Shapes’ Thread network. Is it possible to do this or at least change the Shapes’ channel? I searched online but couldn’t find any information on whether this is possible.

The only hint I found was to perform a hard reset on the Shapes and decline when prompted to enable Threads. However, after resetting one of the Shapes and reintegrating it into the app, I was never asked about Threads.

Nanoleaf Shapes are capable of acting as Thread Border Routers, meaning they have both WiFi and Thread radios, and can route packets between the two IP subnets.

Thread is based on the same underlying radio spec as Zigbee, so Thread radios on channel 25, for example, could interfere with Zigbee radios on the same channel.

I don’t have any insight into how to configure the Thread radios on Nanoleaf Shapes, so my recommendation is to open a support ticket with the manufacturer.

I contacted the Nanoleaf support and got the following answer:

Thank you for contacting Nanoleaf Support, there is not a way to disable the Thread network. It will not interfere with your Zigbee network as it is a Thread Border Router that other Thread devices could join, however Zigbee uses other protocols to get the devices you are connecting to it online.
