Question about the dropdown helper in Automations

Hello, I recently installed Home Assistant and am trying to migrate from iobroker/Homematic. I would like to create a variable (window) to which I can declare two states. Since you can’t rename the standard switch (open/closed), GPT recommended a dropdown menu. I’ve now set it up, but where can I select the state (open/closed) in automations?
I defined a Dropdown “Fenster” with two Entries “open” and “close”.

Where can I select which state the automation should set? I expected a selection with the entries I previously defined in the helper. Or what am I doing wrong? For example, I would like to select “open”

Surprise, surprise. GPT has been bullshitting you. Stop using it for help with things about which you can’t tell when it is doing this. Ask for help here instead.

You actually want a template cover to convert your switch to a window.

Can I also create the variables visually? I don’t want to maintain a YAML? In iobroker or Homematic, it’s easy to do via the graphical interface. Sorry if I misunderstand something, it’s all new to me

See if this helper works for your use case
