QuickBars for Home Assistant - instant HA controls over any app on Android TV

@chino-lu
Hey, we already discussed privately and the issue has been fixed since 1.3.2 :slight_smile:

@PierrotFR
Thank you so much for the kind words, and thank you for reporting this!
I’ll check it out.

@AleXSR700
Hey, I’m not really sure what you’re requesting, can you clarify?

@Markus-77
Nope, that’s very weird (I have the same device and it works great).
Please make sure:

  1. If it works with other buttons (like the star or the Youtube button).
  2. You’re not using accessibility service with other apps, that may affect this button (even if they’re not mapping this explicitly, it could affect QuickBars since long press relies on a timer, which could be affected by another app using the accessibility service, and has its own timer).
  3. Just try to reboot disable and enable accessibility, sometimes it’s as simple as that.

Thanks for this great work

Finally got my cameras to work- turns out the rebroadcast streams from Scrypted don’t work, but other URLs do.
Bought the app, this is something i’ve been trying to make work for a long time.

One suggestion: It would be cool if when you open a camera stream, the icon for the open stream moved to the first position in Quickbars, so that you could turn it off quickly.

Currently the user can set a time out after which the quickbar is closed. The quickbar will be closed whether or not the user is actively using it.

My request would be to have Quickbars recognize that the user is interacting with the quickbar and prevent closure until the user has stopped interaction.

So, if I have the time out set to 10 s but I keep switching my light on and off, the quickbar will show indefinitly. Once I stop clicking buttons on my remote, the quickbar will resume the timer and close.

Version 1.3.2 seems to solve this problem:

Hey Alex,
as @Fantom said, it’s fixed in V1.3.2. Please update through the Play Store.

I’m having issues with new Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode(rtsp). While some apps work correctly, others—like SmartTube and TiviMate pause the video whenever I try to use PiP. From android SONY TV settings i have enabled allow PIP.

Awesome, thank you :slight_smile:

May I make a small suggestion? Either add a 5s timeout or, as I originally meant, pause the timer on click. So just pause the timer instead of resetting.

I’ve got a few reolink cams and an rtsp pi-cam but all I’m getting from the live PIP is snapshots. I’m using the fluent streams from HA imported into the quickbars app either as a cam entity or an alias, same behavior. If I use the clear stream I get camera not found and if I use the rtsp url I get nothing but a spinning circle.

Edit: more accurately, what I’m getting is the snapshot stream (not just a still image), so about 1fps.

Edit 2: After further research, I guess this is what MJPEG is :man_facepalming: it’s working as intended :joy_cat:

@inah72
Hey, it’s really weird. I’m guessing it’s a limitation of these specific apps, since it works for other media streaming apps (and definitely works in my use case for all of the popular streaming apps like Netflix, Plex, Stremio etc.).
If you haven’t tried, I suggest that you try muting the PiP in the script’s configuration, some apps don’t play nice with a volume that’s originating from another app.

@AleXSR700
Hey Alex, I’ll add the 5s option in a future update.

@angrycatmeowmeow
Hey, yeah - this is pretty much MJPEG haha (Moving JPEG).
If you can - try different ways of using an RTSP url. It’s a lot more smooth and higher quality (and has sound).

Did anyone manage to use an LG TV remote key as a trigger key? None of the keys get captured (color keys, number keys, …). The Google 4K remote works perfectly.

Just found this app today and only set up a couple test functions but so far it is awesome! Thanks for putting this together.

This app is INCREDIBLE… honestly, it’s fantastic. I fully plan to use it to eventually replace the HomeKit Secure Video PIPs that start up only when they feel like it — which is to say, rarely — and instead handle triggering via Home Assistant.

That said, I’m going to wait for it to mature a bit, because for now it’s impossible to play my RTSP streams coming from Scrypted, and selecting a camera entity gives me a very choppy, almost unwatchable image :frowning:

In any case, amazing work. I’ll keep an eye on future updates and will still switch to the Pro version (even if I don’t actively use it) to support the project.

This has completely replaced TV Quick Actions Pro for me and my next goal is for it to replace NFATV. I am having trouble with images though. Does it not support images in the media folder and only stuff in www? I’m trying to display /media/local/images/image.jpg or /media/images/image.jpg and neither works.

I’ve also noticed that assigning a button on my remote to open a quickbar kind of deletes every other action of that button. For example I’ve set a double tap of the menu button on my Shield to open a QB, thinking that a single tap would still open android’s settings menu, but I just get toast that no single press action is assigned from QB. Not a huge deal in any case.

I have exact same experience on Android TV and chromecast.
(Volume button long press does not work, have to push it for each volume number change)

Did you ever find solution for the lost of long press volume buttons be lost?

Really need to that feature, having to press button 20+ is not ideal.

Did u get it working? Same issue now… from today. Seems like i can make any trigger keys anymore…

Just want to echo, it would be really nice if rebroadcast RTSP streams from Scrypted worked. Amazing work regardless.

It looks awesome and I want to try it, but… It’s trying to connect to an IP address that is not my home assistant and I can’t see how to make it connect to a different IP address

Does anyone know if the APK is hosted anywhere for Fire Stick sideloading?

This app is great and worked perfectly for me up until last week. Suddenly the camera feed stopped working and I am getting a “Camera error: HTTP 404: Not Found”. I am on nvidia shield and my cameras are Reolink e1 zooms. I have no problem showing my cameras in my dashboard still. I tried reinstalling quickbars but have had no luck. Does anyone have any trouble shooting recommendations
