Radio interfaces away from HA host - is it possible?

Hi,

I currently host my HA on Odroid board located in a central location in myhouse, with USB Zigbee, z-wave and BT dongles plugged in. I would like to migrate HA to a Synology NAS (docker). The problem is that the NAS is physically located in my garden office and for various reasons it has to stay there. But what about the dongles?

I know I can connect them to the NAS usb ports and configure to work with HA but they will be too far from the house. Zigbee might be ok as the Hue bulbs in the back garden should relay the signal but what about BT and z-wave?

Is there some method of keeping them connected to the Odroid board where they currently are and then setting up some software solution that will let themcommunicate with the HA on the NAS, if you know what I mean? Any other ideas?

For zwave it’s easy enough. Zwave JS (UI) communicates with HA using a websocket (or optionally MQTT). As long as they can see each other over the network, they can be in different locations / on different machines.

Alternatively add a few repeaters to cover the gap.

Z2M can also work remotely.

Thanks a lot. Easier than I thought. Any ideas for the BT? I don’tuse it much but I’m thinking of getting the all new door and window sensors from Shelly and they are BT only from what I understand.

Thank you. To be honest, I didn’t think it will be possible for BT and certainly not that easy. Proceeding to migrate my HA…
