Radio LED (D2, blue) on HA Yellow blinking randomly

Hi!

Since installing the latest Silicon Labs firmware (7.5.1.0, but I’ve updated from 7.4.x.x so 7.5.0.0 can be the reason too), the Radio LED (D2, blue) started flashing randomly on my HA Yellow board. It didn’t do that before and since I’m sleeping in the same room with the device, it can be disturbing.

I tried to find a way to configure this on the UI without any luck.

I’ve found the relevant change on GitHub, so this behavior is intentional, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to disable the LED: Fix Yellow Zigbee activity LED (#158) · NabuCasa/silabs-firmware-builder@e85c1de · GitHub

Is there a way to disable that LED?

(Other than building a custom firmware without the activity LED component, because this should be configurable)

Z2M has the option to disable the led when configuring the coordinator, but you’d have to switch over from ZHA.

Personally, I’d just open the case & cover the led with a tiny piece of black electrical tape.
Takes only a couple of minutes & is fully reversible.

I managed to build a custom firmware using the instructions in the repo. I basically reverted the change that enabled the activity LED. After flashing it with the Silabs Universal Flasher, the LED doesn’t light up anymore.

However, this is only a crude workaround because this change will be overwritten with the next firmware update.

I’ll create a ticket in the firmware repo to make it configurable or revert it. IMHO it doesn’t really add value to the system, but it can be annoying for many users. If someone wants to debug if the adapter works, they can check the logs.

I’ve created a ticket. Here’s the link if someone wants to add some other ideas or comments: Let the user disable the radio activity LED on HA Yellow · Issue #197 · NabuCasa/silabs-firmware-builder · GitHub

I’ve noticed the same issue and its a tad annoying…
