Random Freezing

Hi All,

I’m having problems with my HA setup. I’ve run HA for a few years now, originally on a RPi4 then in a container on a NAS. All worked ok. I had to return the NAS for unrelated issues, so purchased a RPi5, and have had nothing but issues with it. I’ve tried two RPi5 boards now, and the problem is the same. I’ve backed up my previous HA setups and have restored the backup when setting up the RPi5, but it (I say ‘it’ as I’m not sure of the root cause) keeps freezing so I have to power cycle the board to get it back up and running. My setup isn’t particularly demanding by comparison of some I’ve seen, and it never caused the same issue with the RPi4 or Docker setups. I’d add, I initially found I was underpowering the board so I’ve ensured the power supply is now ok. I appreciate it could be one of many issues but not sure what other relevant information I can provide here. Additionally, when HA is having issues but I can access the interface, a restart of HA can often result in a failed reboot - i.e. the RPi5 shows a red light and HA does not load.

Any help or feedback gratefully received.

You might think so, but RPis are notorious for having poor power designs.
You might have given it a good powerful power supply with lots of surplus power, but the RPIs are usually designed, so they can not tab into this surplus anyway. The input power circuit is simply limited in its capability and to such a degree that it is often impossible to both power the RPI and USB devices.
So the most common troubleshooting step with a RPi is usally get a powerful power supply, which you already have, and get a powered USB hub for your USB devices to draw power from.
