Hello,
I’m new to this forum and am using a translator.
Overall, my Home Assistant setup is running very well. However, my Shelly devices regularly lose their connection to Home Assistant. Sometimes it’s just for a few minutes, but right now, all Shelly devices have been unavailable for 14 hours. It’s not just one specific Shelly device causing trouble; either everything works, or none of the Shelly devices are available. As soon as the connection is restored, all Shelly devices become available again at the same time.
Does anyone have any tips on what the problem might be?
I’m using a Raspberry Pi 3.
Many thanks.
First thing is a pi3 is no longer recommended as it does not have enough memory, so chances are it is just overloaded and struggling. And i know it used to work but recent updates have bought about this issue as HA just get more capable and therefore needs more resource.
Is your pi connected via cable or wifi? I assume the shelly devices are wifi? is your pi using an sd card? What other hardware do you have connected to your HA?
Feed us with more info and some logs so we can be of more help.
I’ve already noticed that the Raspberry Pi 3 isn’t perfect.
The Pi 3 is connected via LAN cable, while the Shelly uses Wi-Fi. I can switch the Shelly to a LAN connection relatively easily if that helps; the router is located just 60 centimeters away from the Shelly, so reception is good.
Everything is running on a 16GB microSD card. The card is currently 71% full.
Connected devices:
9 Shelly devices
14 Tuya app devices
4 FRITZ!Box routers
I have the same problem occasionally, I have Home Assistantant on a raspberry pi 4. In the graphs I see that some devices stop communicating and at other times in the notifications I see all the shelly devices down. They are then automatically recovered.
Your screen shot seems to indicate timeouts, things being too busy to catch up.
Have a look in your activity dashboard. What is generating all the activity?
Any errors in your system log? [Please use forum </> formatting for readability if you post any logs or code]
Other than dumping some of your installed apps (VS Core being one resource gobbling culprit), time to look at what is making it overloaded.
Is your CPU overloaded? Not enough memory? A overly chatty device? A faulty app? Too much data being stored at one time (often a configuration misunderstanding). A combination of all of these?
How to put it? Your bicycle probably should not be on the autobahn any more…
Do you have configuration problems? Spook (a HACS app) can be temporarily installed to identify some.
The longer term hardware solution (you will need to address the Pi >3< issue) will probably involve upgrade to a small computer with more RAM. There have been numerous posts in the last few weeks on this topic that will guide you so a bit of forum searching and reading will be of great benefit.
