Hi, when I install on the device via memory card, everything works, but via HDD or SSD, nothing works, only on the PC? But PI OS, for example, also starts without any problems.
In addition, the following message appears during installation
card did not respond to voltage selec
I connected the hard drive via a standard SATA adapter with a power connection.
Maybe, but expect an unreliable system. So trying to get this to work is probably not worth the effort and it is mostly untested. And if it works and breaks down badly the price my come later too. You’re mostly on your own with this.
Yes, and then you’ll have a system that is kind of like the Titan Submarine. That mostly worked too. If you don’t know what I mean then Google has that answer too.
Late last year I (finally!) upgraded away from my RPi 3B+. Ironically, the processor ran great. It sat at single-digit or low 2-digit utilization. The problem was the 1G of on-board memory. It wasn’t until that routinely got to 70%+ utilization that I realized my poor old RPi had no future with HA. Each new version requires just a bit more memory, and I knew my time with the 1G Pi was nearing an end.
It’s too bad. The RPi was what led me to HA in the first place, back when that was a very capable and very inexpensive device, just asking for an excuse for me to play with.
Now, developers run much beefier hardware, and beginners balk at the price of the RPi compared to all the other options out there. Sadly, there’s just no interest in supporting that hardware any more. I know I’m just reiterating what’s already been said; I just wanted to add some recent, personal experience.
Generally a pi3 needs the SD card to boot, then can be configured to switch most of the drive use to an external drive, but the SD card has to be there to boot.
As was mentioned, google it, and consider better hardware for use as a server.
