So this rpi4 I installed recently runs at 40C-45C. It’s got a fan case and so doesn’t get too hot. What I’m unsure about is the range. Is a 5 deg. C range safe? I’m guessing yes. However sometimes the rpi goes as low 35C. And on the higher side it can hit 50C. Is this fine? What might be an unacceptable daily range? 30 deg. C? 40 deg. C? Cuz I’m guessing higher the temperature fluctuations, more the thermal stress on components and quicker they might fail?
I’m using only HA on the rpi and it’s when I run Firefox or compile ESPHome code that temperature soars.
I have two Raspberry Pi3 computers in my server closet. They have been running for years. One as an MQTT broker at 45°C, and one running Home Assistant at 52.9°C
You’ll be fine, don’t worry. That range is nothing compared to something like a PC, which would be room temperature when off, and 70+ degrees when gaming.
It’s not throttling that I’m worried about. I know I’m well below throttling temp. I was talking about temperature differential possibly being an issue.
