Recommended Thermostat?

Hello Everyone!

I’ll try and keep this short.

I bet there is already a master thread, but I was not able to find it or answers I was looking for in other threads.

I am moving from vivint (God forbid) and I am trying to find a new thermostat to replace my dying element. As I am on a bit of budget I have a couple choices.

I’d prefer local control, however I see that some devices do not allow for full control ie: fan or change states even if they support matter. I suspect homekit / zigbee the best way?

  • Meross MT300 (Had issues with full control?)
  • Honeywell T5 Smart
  • Ecobee Lite or Essential (I heard lite has more feautres but is discontinued?)
  • Google Nest 3rd gen or Nest Thermostat (Non-Learning)
  • Honeywell T6 (Only wifi, cant find Z-wave, but even still its the most expensive. Can get T9 for the same)
  • Honeywell T9
  • Wyze Thermostat
  • Sensi Touch Smart

Home assistant looks alot different than when I tried to mess with it a couple year ago, and I am not too sure if things have changed in regards to supporting these thermostats.

Which one did you end up going with?

I’m also in replacement mode
I have 2 virtual prestige redlink thermostats (about $700 each including the eim) but:

  1. no fan support on the gen 1 models
  2. must go through Honeywell cloud
  3. every so often (monthly or less) the thermostats resets a installer option that limits heat to 8C and coming to 26c. This is of course a very bad situation especially if I am away for a few months.

I removed all the programming from the thermostats and rebuilt it in HA. But I really want fan support.

Redlink is great, but I can do what it does via a bunch of HA development so I’ll give this up.

I want 100% local (no cloud), great HA support, full fan support.

Is it true ecobee doesn’t work under ha anymore or was that just their cloud models?
