Related automations in entity dropdown does not seem consistent

If I click from my dashboard on one of my PIRs I see:

I then click the three vertical dots top right and choose Related and see:

As we see, no automations are listed, and yet if I choose Device info instead of Related I see:

So automations are then listed, why does only the device view show the automations and not related view?

It doesn’t seem consistent either, other entities I pick and then choose Related I do see automations listed, eg:

Wild guess. Maybe the first one was added as a device in the automation, while the others were added as entities? Compare the yaml of both automations & check

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

The automation for the ‘studio heater - auto on’ uses the entity:

triggers:
  - entity_id: sensor.studio_motion_sensor_air_temperature_2
    above: '8'
    trigger: numeric_state

The automation for the ‘PIR detection overnight’ uses:

triggers:
  - trigger: state
    entity_id:
      - binary_sensor.hall_motion_sensor_sensor_state_any
    to:
      - 'on'

So they both reference entities rather than devices.

I’ll do some more digging…

The Studio Heater automations seems to be using only the Studio sensor’s temperature capability (not motion), is that correct? In that case, that sensor’s “Motion detection” capability wouldn’t be expected to show any related connection.

Whereas your PIR Detection automation is using the Hall sensor’s motion capability, so seeing the related motion-related automation connections for it is expected.

Should have spotted that, thanks.

I notice I have an automation that uses the Studio PIR indirectly but it uses an area and I can see the automation listed under the area so I guess that explains this also.

triggers:
  - trigger: motion.detected
    target:
      area_id: 964920c5170011ebb06e1365cc5e8f7e
    options:
      behavior: each
