Came across this thread by chance so thought I’d add my pennyworth. I’m running a mixture of the Sonoff TH10 with the Si7021 as others on this thread report (Wi-Fi), been in use a couple of years or so. They’re reasonably priced and work. Running on Z2MQTT I have about a dozen or so of the Sonoff SNZB-02 doted about the house. Plus a few of the Tuya TS0201’s, whilst not be the smallest or best looking they do run on standard AAA cell batteries. I’m not going to say which I think are best, that’s mainly subjective I feel. They all give out a numerical readout. How accurate that is, for me it’s not critical. What I have observed though as I’m currently running the Tuya TS0201’s side by side with the Sonoff TH10 with the Si7021 in both my bathroom and ensuite, is that the TS0201’s update quicker. How one use’s that numerical value, accurate or not, to control a fan or any other device is up to the user. It’s just numbers.

I’ve had pretty good results using a Raspberry Pi and Grove temperature / humidity sensor.

I wrote a small perl script which forwards the sensor readings via MQTT, and works very reliably.
