Reliable thermostat that integrates well with Home Assistant?

Hi everyone,

I’m new here and recently started using Home Assistant. Now I’m looking for a smart thermostat that works really good with it.

I saw a lot of recommendations online, but many reviews are mixed and I’m not sure which one is actually reliable for everyday use. I would like something with local control if possible and easy to set up.

What are you using and would you recommend it? Thanks for the help.

Generic Thermostat - Home Assistant .

The OP asked for local control - the generic thermostat doesn’t offer that.

To be clear I think the generic thermostat is the best solution for a lot of problems, but if the OP needs local control they would be better off with physical hardware.

Then there are the standard disclaimers that if you use a physical thermostat it will continue to work even if HA is down.

As OP want it in HA, Generic Thermostat is indeed Local, If you get a Power cut, No Brands thermostats will work either, Same as if the WIFI/Router or internet “clocks out” , etc.

Yes all Automations have it’s “pitfalls” , And the only time my HA’s been down is either because i took it down, or do to Power Cuts outside my control
( Which could have been avoided with a UPS, for HA, and i.e (circulation pump " if it’s waterheated ) and the thermometers runs on battery(over zigbee)

to answer your question, there is the need to ask you some details…

  • what kind of HVAC equipment do you need to control with the thermostat?

There are dry contact, electric floor heating, fanclols etc

  • And as asked before, what is your country?

In Europe is common to have 230v line power systems, where in the US the usual standard is 24Vac

Ecobee is a reliable, commercial thermostat. It is Wi-Fi and you can use their app (which works via the ecobee cloud).

HA has complete local control over the ecobee when it is paired with HA using HA’s HomeKit emulation.
