Greetings,
i am wondering whether it would be possible to remove device tracking overall, remove logging of phones and the sensors such as the battery state etc.
If i disable it thru the home assistant “mobile app” integration it reenables itself once the phone is connected again - i can disable the phone’s APP permisions but they’d still show up as 120 sensors in Home Assistant.
Wish removing this whole integration / logging devices would be possible
Since it’s a company focused system i wouldn’t want employees to all have to manually disable this function - nor would i want anyone using the SEARCH ENTITIES setting on mobile app to be used by the profile i created for workers
Home Assistant isn’t really designed to be used in an office setting, and it doesn’t have some of the isolation and security things you would traditionally think of for a business environment. For instance, those user profiles aren’t really going to provide you system level security at the level you might want. You can set a user as an admin or not an admin, but that’s about it. Almost everything is exposed to a regular user, and while you can try and hide some things from them, that’s all you’re doing - hiding it in the UI. Those things are still there to be found.
I have now successfully manages to mainly hide all entities and linked the offices/rooms by the Area card which upon button click sends you to the settings for that room.
Only issue is that when loading the WEBSITE on a Laptop/PC - the sidebar shows up for enough time for the user IF fast to quickly press and enter the settings etc. but nothing can be controlled
Fully understandable, thank you for the input. Nobody in the office is gonna really want/aim to dig deep for settings etc. so no need to panic about that part, then again it’s a fairly small company.
It’d be mainly used quickly to open app turn off light / dim / turn on AC and that’s about it.
As a student i’ve decided on HA system as other system (KNX) is expensive, not wirelessly adjustable, and many elements such as Shelly Dimmers etc. which are really nice wouldn’t be available…
I set this up for a similar use case. Just on boarded the first employee to it yesterday actually.
For something like office lights you could just put toggles on a webpage and use wifi as the authentication if you didn’t want to deal with OTP. Revising a website isn’t as easy as a HA dash, but as far as I can tell this is much more secure/practical to implement for employees than any direct access in HA via a user login. I use kiosk mode to do some restrictions, but it’s not as reliable. Like you said, sometimes things show up for a moment that shouldn’t.
Maybe I’m not as everyone else.
But I would not want to install an app just to turn on the lights at work.
Either give me a switch or I’ll walk around in the dark.
Having to open an app would be a big no no for me.
Especially an app like HA.
Currently I use it and it would conflict with my private life, but also just a few Google searches shows you the capabilities of the app with tracking, usage and connection to wifi/pinging.
That would put me off for sure.
YMMV.
I know my work computer has a tracking software which logs what apps I have running.
I found that out by opening a log file in the computer that kept updating.
Inside it was a base64 encoded description of what the computer was used to.
At least I now know, and it’s my work computer.
But putting apps on my own phone (I assume not work phone) would not sit well with me.
I appriceate the recommendations - i do like the idea of creating a custom website but sadly that’s out of reach for me as it’s a time consuming project - i just wanted to see if there was anything available inside HA already that i might’ve missed!
hahaha i fully support you, it’s mainly to dim lights or just regulate the lights etc. according to the lux from incoming sunlight into the rooms & for lights not to be left on after work for example.
Honestly i feel like this much tracking done by the HA app shouldn’t be something that’s automatically on by default, it really takes it too far being able to control the screen of the device… Guess that’s why KNX is a good option for large scale building systems although still comparing the pricing…
Fair enough.
But that can be monitored better with a lux meter and motion sensor with a long delay.
Say no movement for 30-60 minutes => lights off.
The screen I didn’t know.
But this is for homes (you know the home part in Home Assistant), so tracking is meant to be between family members. And I guess some find also that too much, but I believe most users here use the device trackers to know if someone is home or not and find it useful.
The default sensors that is on is probably closely related to what most people use, but I can’t back that with facts.
Again, me… If I didn’t know about Home Assistant previously I would google the app my employer wants me to download.
Based on what I would find I would be very hesitant to download this app.
