I bought the wifi doorbell as it allows the integration with the phone (at least on the iPhone). If one presses the bell, your phone rings and you can interact, also with video.
When I tried to integrate it in HA, I got the same error message as you. As I have a Reolink NVR, I added the doorbell in the NVR. It then appeared in HA but … I lost the integration with the phone.
After a long exchange of mails with the Reolink support team, here is what I learned:
When a battery-powered camera is added to an NVR, the camera will be managed by the NVR and can no longer be used independently. Battery cameras do not originally support Reolink port settings, including HTTP/HTTPS/RTMP/RTSP/ONVIF ports. Since the NVR supports these ports, the camera will gain support for them once added to the NVR. However, please note that if you wish to use HTTP or other protocols, you must use the NVR’s IP address and system information—the camera itself does not support these features.
We understand that you may want to use the call feature of the doorbell (where your phone receives a call when someone rings the doorbell). Unfortunately, when the camera is added to the NVR, the call feature will not be available. This feature only works when the camera is used independently.
Based on your needs, a Doorbell POE camera seems better suited for you.
First, the Doorbell POE camera can be connected via a single Ethernet cable directly to the RLN8-410 NVR for power and network.
Second, your NVR supports HyBridge Mode (which requires an HDMI/VGA monitor connected to the NVR to enable). Once HyBridge Mode is enabled, the camera will receive an IP address directly from your router, allowing you to add it independently to the app using its UID. The Doorbell POE also supports Reolink port settings natively, meaning you can access the camera separately via HTTP/HTTPS/RTMP/RTSP in a browser.
Additionally, when the camera is added independently to the app, you will be able to receive calls. At the same time, the camera’s recordings will also be saved to the NVR’s hard drive, as it is simultaneously connected to both the NVR and used independently.
While the Doorbell Battery does not support this configuration, the Doorbell POE does.
In other words, you can’t integrate the wifi doorbell in HA if used standalone.
Had I known this before, I would have gone for the POE one!
I hope it helps.
