Replace RPI 3b+ for a RPI 4 or 5 or Mini-PC or thin client?

OK, as my RPI3 has become obsolete all of a sudden i am now looking for a new platform to install my HA .

I Just have a very simple configuration with just a couple of Zigbee devices and some tasmota plugs and lightbulbs.

What would you recommend? Stay with (a new RPI 4 or 5) or move to a simple Thin-Client or Mini-PC? Budget is very limited so it must be low-cost but reliant and preferable not too powerconsuming.

What would you recommend?? Thanks!

By the time you have paid for a pi4, case, psu and an SSD. You will find a used thin clent or mini pc for a similar price. I would look at hp thin clients if it was me choosing. My hp t630 has been running ha, open media vault and pihole for the last 3 years without issue.

Moved over to a NUC indeed

Yeah, a Mini nuc is a way to go. I have a Lenovo Mini for a couple years now and it’s so much better than my pi.

Why? The RPi3 is 64 bit capable, so it could run modern home assistant (as long as the RAM is big enough).

That aside, if you are looking to buy something new, x86_64 is the only sane choice these days. Way cheaper to find a used thin-client or even USFF x86_64 systems than to buy a RPi plus the hard-required add-on components.

No way i could get it to run ha Antje anymore. So happy with the NUC…Learned a lot from using the RPI but this is so much more comfortable
