Replacement US Panel Energy Monitor

Good morning.

I had an Emporia Vue 2 installed when I moved in late 2021 and it crapped out about a month ago. I flashed it to the ESPHome version in 2024 when I had solar put in and it seems a firmware update failed. Power cycling doesn't seem to bring it back. It already had some issues - one of the monitoring channels was broken and I never got the configuration tuned properly for the solar setup.

Given all this, I'm considering replacements.

I have solar fed into the mains along with five 240v breakers and 27 120v breakers. The completist in me wants to put monitors on all the branches, since some were labeled oddly by the builder (ie: "Smoke Detector" is indeed the smoke detectors, but also my entire home office)

I lean towards the revitalized IoTaWatt and with two units I could come close to covering all branches. Downsides, they're ~$450 each, and I don't love that they require both a power supply and a reference adapter, which would mean four for two of them. I'm also not sure two would fit in my panel.

There's also the Vue 3, which would require either accepting Emporia's cloud or taking another whack and flashing and configuring ESPHome on it. Upside, I can get two for the cost of one IoTaWatt and they're powered within the panel.

Are there any additional options I should be thinking of? I don't want to go for something like a SPAN, which has all of its own issues and to my understanding would also be notably more costly.

Seing the versatility of the Emporia Vue devices in combination with ESPHome, I very much prefer those. I was wondering with which ESPHome version you flashed it as there was an issue recently that required to reflash it via a serial connection. Have you tried that?

Oh, that's good to know.
The attempted update that failed was to 2026.4.5

Might be around that version, just reflash it via serial and it will work again.

Thanks, I'll try that.
