As the developer of Iotawatt has retired. Has the open home foundation thought of approaching home about his partially completed post to esp32 hardware to continue the work?
Where did you get the idea overeasy has retired?
He stopped developing the ESP32 version for commercial release due to an unfavourable trade environment. Similar problems prevent his US store from selling the V2. However it is still available from other manufacturers and he is still offering support.
Maybe because Bob told us! IoTaWatt Stuff
After many years of developing, building and selling the IoTaWatt open source energy monitor I’ve transitioned the business into the open community. CircuitIQ now has all of the original technology and equipment to build the latest unit, ensuring a steady supply going forward. This transition of hardware supplier has been several years in the making. I intend to continue to run the forum and provide support and firmware infrastructure for the foreseeable future.
Yes he is still supporting Iotawatt.
The last release was Release General Release · boblemaire/IoTaWatt · GitHub some three years ago.
Yes you can buy from a Canadian manufacturer at twice the cost of the original and they don’t respond to emails!
Open Home Foundation now have an established record of global commercialisation. And an ESPHome version would be great.
So as I said, not retired, just offloaded manufacturing.
Discussion about the OHF taking on V3 hardware development are off topic here. I will split the topic later.
