Responsiveness Issues with RTC streaming from Unifi Cameras

I have made a couple camera dashboards to automatically show up when my Unifi Protect system is triggered:

• When someone crosses my driveway, my dashboards switch to a view of the cameras on the front of my house
• When a package is detected, my dashboards switch to the package cam
• When someone rings the doorbell, my dashboards switch to the doorbell cam

I am currently using WebRTC-camera cards to do this. On my laptop browser where I program, these feeds look and run great, but on my Android tablets that are my dashboards, the results have been pretty bad. The cameras continually only view the MSE stream, buffer like crazy, and are quite latent. I dove down a rabbit hole with Claude last night and really didn’t end up with a better outcome.

Has anyone else had and fixed this issue? I would love for this to be super responsive given the nature of what is being viewed.

Reduce the resolution of the Unifi feeds.

Most Unifi cameras give the option of sharing High/Medium/Low res in Unifi.

  • Protect → Devices → Settings → Advanced Settings → Share Livestream → RTSPS option

Lower power clients can’t display the high bandwidth streams - some drop back to one still image every 10S in preview.

If this helps, this post!

Thanks for this. Makes perfect sense.
