Roomba with HA and iRobot app

I have a roomba i5+ that I’d like to integrate into HA. The config documentation states The Roomba’s MQTT server only allows a single connection. Continuous mode is enabled by default, which will force the App to connect via the cloud to your Roomba.

Does this mean the Roomba will only work in HA once integrated and the iRobot app won’t? Or am i misreading this?

It takes my wife a little bit to stop using dedicated apps once things are in HA. The integration process for Roomba seems like a thorough process so I thought I’d check on this first if anyone has any experience.

I have the iRobot HA integration enabled with continuous mode turned on, and the iRobot app on my Android phone works fine.

From the documentation, it sounds like the mobile app is forced to use the cloud to talk to the Roomba instead of a local connection in this mode, but I haven’t noticed any issues with it.

Oh okay gotcha. So it connects to the cloud similar to how it connects now when I open the app remotely? That shouldn’t be an issue then. Thanks!
