Router Update Lost Server - Onboarding Screen

I recently switched from router to router, which caused my Home Assistant Green to get assigned a new IP. I figured out how to assign it back after looking in the mobile app at my server and the old ip tied to it. After setting the old ip as static to HA Green, I am greeted by the onboarding screen.

Plain and simple, what happened? Did I just lose everything?

I followed a bunch of other guides on here, but I can’t find anyone who is still having a problem after reassigning the ip. The fact I can see my server information in the mobile app implies that it is still there (to me).

Also, I even set my old router back up to connect to it again like it was before, but it still only takes me to the onboarding screen…

Don’t panic — your data is almost certainly still there. The mobile app seeing your server info confirms the HA instance is running fine.
The onboarding screen from the browser is usually a caching issue or DNS confusion after a router swap. Try:

  • Hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R) or incognito mode
  • Access directly by IP (http://x.x.x.x:8123) instead of homeassistant.local
  • Check port forwarding on the new router
I’ve seen this a few times and it’s always something network-layer, never actual data loss.

I have tried the first two options with the same result.

What would I be looking for with the port forwarding route?

(And thank you for the words of encouragement and hope!)
