Russound MCA C5 Tuner

Happy to report great success @noahhusby with your setup !

Hopefully this one last longer than the IP solution

Noah,
I am a long time lurker but seldom post much. I just wanted to say thank you for your work on this integration. My mca C5 has been frustrating to say the least. I can now reliably turn on music for guests remotely thanks to this and your serial converter setup hints. I’m reluctant to try changing anything, but can I integrate the custom component for radio tuner selection for presets in RIo3 and keep your latest controls for bass/trebel and turn on volume?

I haven’t seen any changes on that fork from Nat-Neels for a few years. If it isn’t compatible, it would be a welcome addition to the core version.

Hi @jayhawkram,

Glad to hear your setup is working better now.

The integration is pretty much completely different from how it used to be so simply combining those functions will likely be frustrating.

That being said, I should have some time in the next month to work on preset support. My implementation would use the media browser UI in Home Assistant instead of just appending tuner presets to the input list. I’ll keep you updated with progress on that.

Great! I still enjoy sports broadcasts over the radio tuner. I won’t pretend to know which way is better for following home assistant guidelines. Any simple work around by directly tuning, accessing favorites, or using the preset stations would allow me to delete the buggy Android app.

I’ve opened a pull-request to add media browsing for presets for Russound RIO. It should be in the next release (2025.8). This would allow you to browse the tuner presets right from the UI. I’ll work on improving controls for manually browsing tuner stations in the future.

Here’s an example of what that would like like:

browse

I’ve run into an issue where I can’t get the iTach to work at all. Using the same cable you bought too. Is there a port I need, I’ve tried 23 (telnet) and so far, nothing. (MCA-C5)

I figured it out, on the iTach, enable Multiple Ports:

In HA, for the port, use 4999.

Thanks @noahhusby

Great job- thanks a lot! A little bit off topic, how did you implement the Russound into your Smarthome/Home Assistant. IĀ“m struggling to find the best scenario. Actually I have seperate software players from a Lyrion Media Server providing the Sound/Spotify and the Russound I control with Automations to swith On/Off the Zones. But I try to find a ā€œbetterā€ solution, not sure if Music Assistant is that in the future. ItĀ“s always a hassle to write the correct automation, switch on the correct zones, group them etc.pp. - any idea or proposal?

Wondering about same as I also have multiple Lyrion Media Server and legacy Logitech squeezeboxes/streamers, connected to Russound.

Per today I do it manual, different sources an manually selecting correct inputs on the russound device, but surely theres a much better way in home assistant through automations and a proper dashboard.

Only backside is that spotify connect seems to have been dropped in later Lyrion media server versions, due to instability

Hi, Can someone help me get SCS-C5 software. I’m unable to find it anywhere online. Even tried to register on Russound but their portal won’t let new users sign-up. thanks
