Background:
I was setting up HA instance for my parents. They don’t need to have access to certain features or be confused by “overview” dashboard full of stuff about entities and what not, so I created a dashboard for them and wanted to set their user profiles to only have that and energy dashboard in their side panel. Turns out, that can’t be done.
If I understand correctly, user settings (dark/light mode, side panel items etc) are saved per browser instance, rather than for the user globally.
Proposed solution:
It might be better to save these settings on the server, so that users are presented with consistent experience across browsers and machines. This would also allow admin to log in as a user to make the changes for them (which is not ideal, but controlling these settings from anadmin account for other users in the home would be whole another feature request).
It is confusing for average users to encounter different UI when they log in from different machine or browser. Most stuff that HA presents to users is not necessary for average user and it is counter productive for easy adoption.
If this has been requested somewhere already then I am sorry. I tried to look but I only found a few topics by people being confused and assuming it was a bug, not intended behaviour.
