Search Function - How do I make sense of this?

The more letters I type in when I want to find something e.g. in the ‘Devices’ tab, the more results I get.

I’d expect it to reduce the number of search result when I get more specific, not increase it.

Is there a secret way (other than maybe adding a ‘.’ at the beginning) to receive more sensible search results?

It’s not a standard search filter. It is something clever, so useful if you figure out the magic but if you use it 4 times a year, it makes no sense…

Since it is working as designed, it will likely take an architecture discussion to change it.

Thanks for the explanation and the link - it’s probably just too clever for me, so I’d definitely like to be able to simply turn it off and go back to my not-so-clever way of finding things :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I just tried to use it with the d-hotkey as shown in the documentation and this is even more confusing:

With the same letters, it only shows one of the devices that came up in the ‘Devices’ tab - and it’s not the one I was looking for.

I choose to ignore that and also…

When searching for mat gets you to an entity with the friendly name oflame alligators and you have to sort thru all that, it’s time to just bail.

Yikes !! I vote to go back to a normal search  or give a choice at least.

Yup, this ‘search’ approach is driving me crazy - sometimes an entity doesn’t even show up when I type in its full name, but 15 others do :frowning:
