I believe the YT API allows the functionality I have described. The YT integration already uses this API.
I therefore thought it would make sense to extend the very same integration.
It seems like people are hacking their way around to get something like I have asked to work.
This is a piece of functionality I’d love to see in the formal HA YT integration. Sorry if this is not the way to go.

I am not sure he is asking for an just an update to that API. That api looks like it is more specifically for running a channel rather than interacting with an interface.

I think what he is looking to do, at least we are… is extend basic voice functionality to offer better control. Such as commands to a wake word like Ok Nabu:
“Find videos on youtube about earthquakes in peru”
Then it passes the search term to either a tab in a new window, or the youtube app on the android device it’s running on to pull up videos.

Other things we would want our voice assistant to do are:
“What is the definition of percentage?”
and it returns the definition in spoken form.

Or…
“What is the weather for the rest of the week?”
It returns the weather forecast for the next 7 days in spoken form.

I am sure there are ways to cobble together these things, but most of us are used to just having the functionality available. For a voice assistant we want these things. Rather than spending hours putting all of this together it would be nice to just have it work, and if it couldn’t do something it tells us why.
“Sorry I am not able to tell you the weather for the rest of the week because you do not have it configured in my settings yet. Please go to my setting in home assistant and enable weather forecasting for your zip code.”
