Sensor for Services on a Remote Computer

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

At my office, I have a computer that runs software that is not designed to be fiddled with behind the scenes while it’s running. It’s not client/server based either. However, by using Syncthing, I have been able to work on two independent computers, as long as only one of them is running the software at a time, in order to bypass transferring files manually.

If at any time I have an assistant needing to do work in that program, there’s no way to know if the other party is using the data through that program.

I can SSH into the other machine and poll the services to determine if it’s running or not, but wouldn’t it be nice if I could have a boolean sensor that only looked for a specific running service on a remote system so I could incorporate that information into my visual dashboard…sorta like a “recording” light outside of a studio.

Anyone have insight to which direction I should go to accomplish this?

Well crap…

It pays to Google.

I wonder if this is what I need to screw around with.
