For a few days now I have been experiencing a phenomenon with the Companion App (2025.7.1 (2025.1342)) on my iPhone.
If it is not open in the foreground, no sensors such as the charging status of the iPhone are updated. So far, this has always worked great and reliably, but apparently there was a July update of the app (see version number), which now seems to be causing the problem.
I have already deleted the iPhone from the Mobile App Integration and added it again, and I have also deleted and reinstalled the Companion App. All without success, unfortunately. As far as I know, a downgrade is not possible on the iPhone.
I granted the app all the permissions that it requested.
The charging entity in particular is important for various automations and I would be very sorry if this no longer works in the future.
Do you know the problem and do you have a solution?
Iām having the exact same problem. Sometime within the last couple of weeks, automations that triggered when I took my phone off of the charger now donāt trigger until I reopen the app.
+1 Another one with this same issue. I normally have quite a few automations driven off my phone going on or off charge at certain times in the day. Doesnt look like the log within Home Assistant is even picking up these changes anymore, even with the app open an in the foreground
I use my ipad as a wall dashboard, I use a kiosk app so that I have a nice clock screensaver vs the screen being 100% all the time. used to be fine having the HA app closed with sensors in the background but last week woke up to a dead battery because the automation never triggered to charge. Anyone find a solution?
FIX: Take a look in the Home Assistant companion app on your mobile device. Go to Settings > Companion App > Sensors. Check āEnable all sensorsā. Just found this (apparently new) setting on my iPhone.
I have also problems with sensor not updating too. My Auto Unlock automations wonāt work because what I think has to do with the sensor updates not working properly. My ssid and connection type wonāt update with the app in the background at least when I change manually from wifi to cellular for testing.
Iāve noticed the same thing. āEnable all sensorsā is already set in my companion app, but oddly I canāt turn it off (I thought turning it off and back on again might fix something).
Iāve got all permissions open and āPeriodic Updatedā set to 1 minute.
This seems like a recent change: my iPhone sensors used to update very frequently. Now hardly at all (only when I open the app).
I have the same problem, I have some automations that, inside my home wifi, use the sensor āactivityā when move to āautomotiveā as trigger, when I jump in the car. I have the iphone banner that confirm the sensors have been updated, but I have to open the companion app to run the automation. All sensors enabled in the settings.
