First day using HA so forgive lack of knowledge. I am adding the IKEA light switches and they are adding in fine but when I try to give them a location, despite selecting the location from the drop down and saving each time they are not showing in the rooms in my overview?

Sorry no one has responded to you yet. Maybe give some more details, but I just tried this… on the device page for a given device, when I select the “pencil” and then choose an “area” in the pulldown and click on “update”, then on the same device page in the upper left it shows the area I selected. Subsequently it does show up in the area on the “overview” page.
It’s sorted but weird. Sometimes the location works on editing the location on the device sometimes it works by editing the location on the location… whatever, it’s sorted.
