It's similar to all the other sensors, it wants a sensor that tracks a cumulative charge or discharge.
The period of the entity (lifetime, daily, monthly) doesn't really matter as the statistics engine reverses that out and generates a lifetime accumulation from it, and then uses that as the basis of all the further calculations.
