@buckbanzai same here. This is a worrying disappointment but one positive we have is that for the Shelly integration to keep it’s Platinum Quality rating, Schneider can’t do anything too drastic… I hope
This one bothers me more as there is (I don’t think) and ecobee integration (I have the thermostat, it is great) - but only because it is reachable in a local manner through homekit.. eek
Generac is tighter that your grandparents safe with their data. They keep changing their API so we have to use their app to look at anything. Very annoying…
They ‘could’ just sell us a plugin device that limits our local data and has it’s own serial or wifi AP, but we have to void warranty to add that in if we choose to.
And I live in the city that is world HQ for them. Do better, neighbor!
Be very afraid.
What do you mean their data, it is our data that we allowed them to collect!! I’m already looking for a ESPHome based thermostat in case of Generac decides I need to pay them for my data and control.
We’ve had a Pi 4 with Genmon inside our Generac generator for over a year now, and even when the technicians come do the yearly maintenance with the side panels open they have never mentioned the Genmon at all.
My setup is pretty clean, so I’m sure that helps: My Genmon + PintSize setup (24kW Guardian) · jgyates/genmon · Discussion #1506 · GitHub
…Schneider Electric is large enough to lower prices at or below SONOFF. But they won’t.
Below sonoff there is tuya, ikea and so on.. I think they are not investing 1.2b to compete with chinese hobby gadgets. They likely need that tech/knowledge for their “professional” products.
If they are not stupid, they leave Shelly as it is.
A.M.E.N. to that!
I don’t know what you mean with that..
Schneider is 200b company. If they need to step forward with “smart tech”, they have few options. Build it from scratch, go with tuya or buy shelly. In my opinion shelly acquisition is not bad option at all. Since their main business is not hobby gadgets and since shelly has profitable business, they could leave shelly to live it’s own life.
But of course one idiot can fuck up both with wrong choices.
Meaning I hope they leave Shelly as it is. I hope Shelly keeps creating new models… it would be awful to see Schneider just let Shelly die on the vine…
They are big enough to trash Shelly, but since there is no conflict with targets, I don’t see one reason to do it. Schneider doesn’t have good structure for smart tech.
Just another topic about ELKO (owned by Schneider) thermostat here, using tuya and trying to keep reputation of well known north european professional brand.. That path is silly.
Give it about 2-3 months and you will have issues after the buyout, time for people to make sure they can flash shelly devices after this buyout to make sure they have proper control still.
What I actually think could be nice is if Shelly relays will in future fit better with Schneider’s wall switches, because theirs fit our wall boxes while the Shelly switches don’t.
I have some shelly but my experience gives me mixed feelings.
The openness of the ecosystem, the features offered, the dimensions of the minis and the general “feeling” is great, but:
Let’s hope that SE uses Shelly know how to expand their line of product and not change the “culture”, I have seen in the press release that the agreement is to keep business as usual for at least 3 years, let’s see what happens in 2030…
I’m pretty sure you can flash ESPHome on a lot of Shelly devices as a last resort, thankfully. If they start doing sketchy stuff I sure will be.
Notced something interesting… evidently there is a KNX integration - which is for Schneider devices?
also see this screensot of one of the new Sehlly gen 4 UL listed devices just announced - I had never heard of KNX before -
and then I got this off the web - interesting -

Yes, KNXnet is associated with Schneider Electric, specifically in relation to their home and building automation systems.
KNXnet is indeed associated with Schneider Electric, particularly in the context of their home and building automation systems. This technology facilitates communication between various devices within a KNX system, allowing for efficient automation and control.
Schneider Electric is a leading manufacturer of KNX-compatible products, including:
In summary, KNXnet is a key component of Schneider Electric’s automation solutions, providing robust communication capabilities for smart buildings.
So in conclusion - I do have to say - this strengthen’s Schneider’s possible reasons for letting Shelly continue on their same direction instead opf destroyiing everything (at least for the meantime!)?
KNX has been supported since 2024 so I think that’s not related to the deal, at least in my view it’s not the main motive.
My hypothesis is that SE bough Shelly to have it’s alternative to Tuya. Clone the Shelly backend, connect it to SE huge install base in some way and have a “cloud” portal/backend to interact with things.
My 2 cents…
Probably both. SE simply didn’t have resources to fulfill their objective.
