Hi.
First of all i hope the hardware category is the right one. Feel free to move the topic if it’s not the best category.
I’m looking for suggestions on how to integrate a manual velux roof window (so no direct integration or control). I’m planning to use a Shelly blu window contact sensor to track it since it also has the tilt sensor, but i’m struggling a bit.
First of all ideally i would like to track:
- handle position (it can be closed, partially open for airflow but still locked, or open)
- window position when open (tilt)
my first idea was to place the main sensor on the handle so i can track the handle position easily. If the contact sensor is closed the handle is fully closed and locked, if the contact sensor is open and tilt is less than a threshold the handle is in the airflow position, if it’s over it’s fully unlocked. This works great until i really open the window and not just the handle. The tilt sensor seems to only go from 0 to 90 degrees so if i open the window the tilt can easily go back under the threshold making it useless.
i could place the main sensor on the window body instead and track a single open/closed state of the handle (merging arflow and open) and then tracking the tilt just for the window movement, but the main sensor is a bit too big to fit beside the handle. maybe i could place it at an angle to make if fit but it’s not ideal.
the easiest solution is to place the sensor on the opposite side, and completely avoid the handle tracking, but this could easily lead to an unlocked window reading as closed and i don’t like it.
the last solution is to use 2 sensors per window, one for the handle tracking and one for the window tilt, but it costs twice as much an it’s not an elegant solution
Did any of you try to solve a similar problem? any suggestions on how i could solve it?
