Shelly ! mini g3 stopped accepting password

Hi, not 100% sure where to post this, version 2026.2.1,
this was working for over a year, then today it stopped connecting and would not accept the password to reconfigure.
I have re-entered the password , by logging in to the web interface of the device, so I know the password is valid, I’ve even factory reset the device, and still the same.
As HA is running on an odroid device in Docker, I created the user odroid in HA and tried that

odroid@odroidN2:/home$ ls -ls
total 12
4 drwxr-x--- 2 homeassistant homeassistant 4096 Sep 12 2024 homeassistant
4 drwxr-x--- 18 odroid odroid 4096 Jun 6 18:24 odroid
4 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Jul 24 15:20 odroid.homeassistant

I suspect the reason maybe the user/password but I’ve tried richard and odroid , both have admin use, is it wanting the user that owns HA on the host machine , ie “homeassistant”

I’m running out of ideas, I can control the shelly 1 mini G3 from its web interface , all the other 13 shelly devices are fine

Any ideas ???

I had that happen with a Shelly Uni Plus, I had to replace mine, it was under warranty. It is a unrecoverable.

I’ve just change the device and it works.. Strange when you can in a web browser log in, but HA cant .. That shouldn’t happen

user names, network logins, passwords in HA for devices need to be surrounded by " ", double check your yamls and ui for devices

Spoke too soon, I changed the name of the Shelly device in its config, from the long name with its Mac address to “Central_Heating”
Just done the same thing, and now I cant get into it, I’ll have a word with shelly

, Third device : All working fine until I upgraded the firmware from Shelly … I’d suggest to anyone DO NOT upgrade to the latest Shelly firmware , lets hope a factory reset restores the old version firmware

A cludge that gets over it is to set the shelly1 mini G3 to password less , than HA can talk to it.
Albeit with a huge security hole in my network

yeap, what a pia, why can’t they get it fixed

I’ve raised a support ticket with Shelly, but not hopeful. This is their firmware that can support https. .
All ican say to anyone reading this is that if something is working and doing everything that’s wanted don’t upgrade the firmware

I have a very positive opinion of Shelly, but there’s one thing that annoys me: the inability to roll back the firmware version! There’s an independent firmware archive (whose author deserves all the credit), but it doesn’t cover all devices. Because of this, I’m usually two versions behind, just to feel safe

I also have a good opinion of Shelly devices , I’ve 17 on the system here, I had a look at the independent link, But I dont know the code they use for a Shelly 1 mini G3. I’m hoping Shelly will supply the code for version 1.5.5 , or the previous version to v2.0.0 . I’m pretty sure its a Shelly problem , I did notice when trying to set the password on HA an improperly formatted message , , but only saw it once and just a quick flash … Wait and see time , I dont like using open access devices,

had a reply from shelly

Regarding the authentication issue after updating to firmware 2.0.0-g87fbfa4 on your Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 devices with Home Assistant — this appears to be a known compatibility concern between the new firmware and HA's authentication mechanism. Here's what we recommend:

Steps to try:

Open your browser and go to the device's local IP address (or 192.168.33.1 if connected to the device AP)
Check if the web interface is accessible — if yes, navigate to Settings → Authentication and verify/reset the credentials
In Home Assistant, try removing and re-adding the devices — HA may need to re-authenticate after the new firmware introduces changes
Check the Home Assistant Community for Shelly integration notes specific to firmware 2.0.0

Firmware rollouts are staged — not all devices receive stable builds simultaneously. If issues persist, please reply on this ticket with the exact error HA shows during authentication — we'll investigate further from there. 🔧

Known issue !!!.
I’ve replied and they are sending v 1.7 firmware. But say they sent a preview of the release to HA. In othere words nothing to do with us , its HA’s fault.
My answer is they broke it , they can fix it. If anyone else get caught by this this when I get the last stable verson firmware I can forward it to them

HA releases occur on the first Wednesday of each month. I had a look at the Shelly integration repository and the change to support encrypted SSL was only merged in last week. Most times releases between different companies don’t line up, which is why you should wait & read the release notes carefully before upgrading firmware.

All you have to do is wait another 9 days & update HA to 2026.8.0 and you won’t need to downgrade the firmware on your Shellies.

@lordwizzard this applies to you too ^^

Oh the pain of upgrading HA, Having to redo everything graphical, , wouldn’t it be nice if you could just click in setting on upgrade, and it did. the last upgrade completely wipe the lovelace desktop, , so a few days having to do it all again. At least Shelly have the upgrade made easy, 1 click,
