Simple home / not home detection keytag

Hey!

At first I gotta ask to be patient with me as I’m really still a beginner to most of the technical stuff but I’m learning and willing to read if I know WHERE to find the answers which leads me to the problem

I’m looking for a small device to attach to my keys for home assistant to simply get a sensor for me being at home or not. I know the simplest way is with my mobile phone and the app and yes I’m using that but the problem is, that I´m not always taking my phone with me when leaving home.

I tried different cheap ble key tags from AliExpress, Amazon and so on and using the BLE integration with that. Most of them would just randomly switch being home or not. One of them seemed to work for some time but now it also does the same thing.

I really tried to look everywhere online but I just don’t seem to find anything or even people with the same problem as me

Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks!

There is a thread from this time last year with a number of options for BLE keyfobs. I had the same experience with the cheap ones, but the FeasyCom beacons and tags have worked well for me. Others have reported good results with Tile, Pebblebee, and Chipolo.

Keep in mind that there are two sides to the process, transmitting and detecting. You may also need to improve the detecting side by adding Bluetooth proxies.

Thanks for your advice! I’ve just ordered a FeasyOne and will try that. Maybe also adding a Bluetooth proxy. Did you use yours in a similiar setting as mine?
