With so many people using home assistant to provide local only services, it would be nice to have a means to do basic communication with other ha users. A simple MQTT Chat would give a way to message other users and it’s my understanding that implementation wouldn’t be that hard. I would attempt but have no idea where to start. The nice thing is that I believe all the features to implement are already in implemented one way or another in ha, just not implemented in a chat add-on for users. I personally use the system offgrid for my small cabin in the mountains, I have long range wifi setup for when I’m out on the property. When I’m away I’m always connected via VPN. I have to micro manage my power consumption due to limited resources so spinning up multiple servers to self host doesn’t make sense when 100% of the support and functionality are already in ha. I’m not suggesting anything crazy, text only messaging would be a great start. In the attached image I mark in green the drop-down that says “home assistant”, maybe that could include other users of the local instance for messaging. Just an idea since mqtt, notifications, etc are already a working feature set. Would definitely help step away from social media for kids and family and allow for communication amongst each other that has access to the home.
Hello Billy Myers,
This could be a helpful thing, but the likelyhood of getting help here with it is low.
