Simple Question Is adding a Z-wave Device only by the Z-wave integration enough

I have continued by hobby of torturing my HA. I am running HAOS 18.2 and core 2026.9.2.

When I rebuild my HA I get confused between the Z-wave Integration. and the Z-wave JS app. Is adding the device only to the integration enough This post seems to say that

The Z-Wave JS app is where everything happens. It’s kind of like a web service that the HA integration can talk to. The integration isn’t talking to any devices directly.

The integration just talks to the Z-Wave JS app over a web socket. And you can thus use the integration to tell Z-Wave JS to add a device. The integration provides a nice HA-style interface. So, yes, adding only to the integration is enough, but the integration is just telling the app to add the device in the background.

I exclusively use SmartStart on the Z-Wave JS app to add new devices which are then discovered by the HA integration. (Although it’s not really “discovering” – z-wave js tells HA that there’s a new device.)

thanks. Can you or anyone explain to me and easy way how I can get the information from the integration (i.e. name , location ) to the Z-Wave JS App?

I’m not quite sure what you after. Back when we were migrating from to ZUI (before HA had the “UI” part natively) there was this guide and section 1.1 was used to pull the names and location out of HA that could be used for setting up the names in ZUI. See section 1.1.

Not sure how much applies now, and I’d wouldn’t want to overwrite nodes.json w/o being cautious and see what is there first.

understannd about overwriting. I guess I will go device by device and chase it down. How about finding what a Node is attached to I have several nodes than the UI show they are powered I have no idea which device the represent
