SkyConnect - add Thread support

I have the SkyConnect running successfully with the ZHA integration, and it’s on the latest firmware from a few months ago.

I just want to check before I purchase a device that requires it: can I just use Thread if I install the “Thread” integration? Or if not, what would I need to do exactly?

Or perhaps would you say it’s best to gamble it, to purchase the device and see if it happens to already work?

You need a firmware installed on the SkyConnect to handle multiprotocol setups and you then need an addon on HA to handle splitting out the two protocols to their respective handlers.
Everyone on the forum that have tried that setup will recommend you to get another stick for Thread instead and then install the Thread-only firmware on that.

Once the Thread stick is setup, it is then just a question about installing the Thread Border Router and the Thread integration.
If it is Matter over Thread, then you also need to install the Matter server addon and the Matter integration.

Okay, and by “another stick” you mean another SkyConnect? Or are there any other (/cheaper) options?

I live in The Netherlands if that helps to recommend something.

Any stick that can run the Thread.
SkyConnect is just one example of a group of sticks based on the same chip and I think they can all be converted to Thread with the firmware.
I can not remember the name of them, but others will. I personally just use SkyConnect.

Ok, thank you very much. I’ll just see what I can find.
