This release brings many quality-of-life features and flexibility improvements:
Per-Cover Sun Azimuth Tolerance & Min/Max Elevation
These new settings allow you to configure the exact angles at which sunlight hits a cover from the left, right, top, or bottom.
These settings are available per cover, making it possible to replicate your building's geometry precisely while taking nearby trees or neighboring buildings that cast shade into account.
Result: The integration's heat protection can close covers accurately when they are exposed to the sun and open them otherwise.
Night Silence (Pre-Closure)
In the evening before a hot, sunny day, pre-close covers that the sun will shine on the next morning.
This avoids cover movements early in the morning while you're still sleeping.
Quality-of-Life
Active/passive reopening modes: Configure whether the integration should always reopen covers that were closed manually after the override duration has elapsed, or only reopen covers that were previously closed by the integration.
Heat protection: Never open a cover that is already more closed than its target position.
Flexibility
Blocked time range: New external control mode to configure the start and end times from your automation.
Miscellaneous
Delay between covers: Delay the start of each cover movement relative to the next within the same automation cycle.
Weather forecast: Store the day's minimum and maximum temperatures instead of using the next day's forecast after the afternoon cutoff time.
Cover opening: When fully opening a cover, use open_cover instead of set_cover_position to fix position issues with some types of blinds.
Options flow: Show friendly names instead of entity IDs in the configuration wizard.
Hi,
I just added to my HA. It is amazing! Thanks a lot!
Do you think, it would be possible to add also light sensors to decide to close a cover?
I have a weather station with kLux information of west, south and east. It would be great to use this as a sensor to decide if it is sunny outside and close the covers.
I saw the external sensor example in our documentation, but as far as I understand this, this is just a single sensor.
Sorry, proberbly the question is stupid, but I'm really new to HA.
This release adds a heat protection mode setting to the UI and brings various other improvements.
Under the hood, a lot was changed to properly track automation-managed cover state. Please note that after an upgrade from an earlier version while covers are closed, it may be necessary to manually move covers to the open position once.
Good evening, I found this roller shutter automation and think it’s very easy to understand.
I have a few questions about it. As I understand it, if I set “Morning Opening” to “External,” I was thinking of an entity—for example, in my case, a datetime sensor with a configurable time—but there doesn’t seem to be an option to enter a sensor. Or did I misunderstand something?
Also, I’m wondering: if I don’t have shading in use, can I disable it somewhere, or could I use a dropdown menu here that might have options like “Automatic” or “Shading”?
One more question: for some roller shutters, can I set them to move to a sort of intermediate position—for example, a so-called “home position” at 70%?
Thank you very much for this roller shutter control system.
Hi @moonsorrox,
Thanks for your kind words. Please head over to the discussions area of the integration’s GitHub repo, that’s the right place for questions.
Hi Helge Klein,
I just noticed that my discussion post was removed from GitHub—even though I had stated there that I wouldn’t be using the integration due to a missing feature. In my opinion, that is no justification for deleting the post; doing so runs counter to the transparency of a discussion.
Please reconsider this approach. We should interact openly and transparently rather than deleting uncomfortable questions.
Martin
I’ve spent a lot of time testing your integration to see if I can adapt it to my use case. If so, I plan to write an article about it, as I find your approach much simpler compared to others that can be overly complex.
I fully understand that I need to adapt some of my existing automations to use it, and overall I’m able to achieve what I want. However, I have a question regarding a point that doesn’t seem clear in the documentation.
When my kids or friends are occasionally staying in their room, I want to leave them free to open or close the shutters using the physical switches.
In this scenario, should I disable the automation switch switch.smart_cover_automation_enabled or use Hold current position ? If I disable the automation, I can no longer use Force close and lock when arming the alarm to ensure everything closes. Could you clarify the best way to handle this, and whether it might make sense to add a “Free use” / “Manual override” mode?
I’ve noticed that in the Hold current position mode, if the shutter is moved using the physical buttons, nothing seems to happen. The documentation mentions that it should maintain the current position. If it really doesn’t react or interfere in this mode, that works completely fine for me.
This release adds Cover movement to tilt delay, a new optional setting that complements the existing Tilt open to cover open delay. It’s useful in cases where tilt commands cancel cover movements (e.g., with Somfy blinds).
This release adds daytime strategy. It provides control over cover positions during daytime when heat protection is not active. Previously, the integration always opened the covers on such “normal” days. This is now but one of several strategies:
