Smart deadbolts, the Australian edition

Well that’s a nice little mark-up Bunnings have then! I’d certainly be more interested in running the gauntlet on whether or not the Amazon one will work directly with HA than the Bunnings one.

These would be more used in interior rooms than a main door I would say just due to how they are designed.

There is also this style for those that want it:

I read through a heap of the reviews on Amazon and stumbled across one saying that due to the bluetooth connection, remote control is not possible since the lock goes to sleep. So for me that’s no good as it would appear to make proper interaction with HA rubbish.

I’ll probably take the risk at a good HA integration from the ZigBee locks I linked a few posts up on 2 May.

I went with the U300 for my main lock and its been working and stable so far through matter, I still have the switchbot lock the non pro version I may use elsewhere and I am still keeping that failed tuya nightlatch one just to play with should I find a use for it lol.

Cost aside looks like gainsborough have matter over thread now?

until they do a version to replace https://www.gainsboroughhardware.com.au/en/products/8905BB.html I’m stuck…

Level has an offer on their Bolt (Level Bolt - The Invisible Retrofit Smart Deadbolt | Level). In Australia for about A$350 (Amazon). Does the hardware fit Australian dimensions?

Can’t confirm but it looks like it. Measurements are correct.
Amazon has a good return policy so I would take the punt.

Does anybody know of a smart lock for australian glass sliding doors. Specifically an edge lock. Have been looking for ages and just doesn’t seem to exist. Closest I have found is something like this which is of course not a smart lock. https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/product/atlas-lg204-digital-sliding-door-lock

Not a deadbolt, but screen door lock:

Smart Screen Door Lock | Yale Unity Screen Door Lock | Yale

Has anyone tried these with HA without using their hub? It mentions Bluetooth so hoping they ‘just worrrrrk…’ via an ESPhome Bluetooth proxy. It’s listed in the HA docs as working, would like to hear what any users think of them.

Have a read of the reviews on the Bunnings page before you buy.

Wow first six reviews and it’s clearly a nope!

Turns out one of my mates bought one a while back and yeah, he said not to buy one.

Unfortunately there seems to be no other options around at the moment so I guess I’ll have to wait and see what comes out in the future.

ALDI has some locks coming next week,

My parents place front deck has a gate, with a fancy one of these things

Had anybody seen a smart lock for this type of thing ?

The closest I found is this one that I posted in reply to another thread:

My friend bought one a few years ago and asked me to install and configure it when I visited downunder.
It was Tuya based, with bluetooth, wifi, fingerprint, camera, two way audio, NFC, metal keys, and a bunch of attractive options, and with close reading of the enclosed Chinglish manual, spoiled by having the default master security password as 12345678, and no method of changing it (when called, Aldi tech support said it was there for backup settings in case you needed to reset it to factory settings).
I refused to install it on lax security grounds, and he got his money back.
EVERY Aldi lock can be instantly unlocked with the default password 12345678 according to support.
The picture in the catalog looks very much the same model this year.
If you can’t get rid of the default password, why not just buy a roll of sticky tape and put it across the door - far more effective.
As my mate said, Yeah/naah…

That is the dumbest backup security I have seen… no lock should have that backdoor default password ever… at most you have to already have internal access to the home and press and hold the actual reset button that is there and under the cover for that very reason.

Oh wait - the reset button is on the inside - they got that bit right!
If they had made the default password 87654321 instead of the other way around, at least passing schoolchildren wouldn’t luck out on their first attempt.

I have one that got installed October last year using the gen 2 connect hub and haven’t had any issues. My parents also have one but did have some issues with it but they have the older hub. There was a software update around the middle of last year it started working a lot better. We also use the nfc fob just in case there are any connectivity issues so we can still get in.

I use the Yale home integration and have had no issues with it.
The lock does show up as discoverable through the ESPHome proxy’s but haven’t tried it.
