Smart door bell with interior screen & HA compatibility

Hi,

First of all: I did Google for the answer, but my specific question seems to be less common then I thought. So I hope someone here has some hands-on experience that can help me.

So:

  • I have a Bticino Classe 300 X13E door bell in my home. It’s only 4 years old, but I’ve been underwhelmed from the beginning because of bad camera image quality. It’s really horrendous, you wouldn’t sometimes recognize who’s at the door (and yes, also when the lens is clean).
  • Also, it’s proprietary communication and doesn’t integrate with Home Assistant. Which means I now have all my smart devices in Home Assistant, except for the door bell camera.
  • As third issue: the app is quite unhandy. I always need to fully log in to my cell phone to be able to pick up. So I lose time with fingerprint detection etc, and if it’s a courier at the door it happens he’s already gone by the time I can answer.

So I was doubting if I should replace it, but then these are my requirements:

  • 2-wire system, NOT wireless → I want to always have a door bell, also if wifi is down.
  • Door post with camera of course, but also screen in the living room (no tablet, something 2-wire connected, as stated). Screen in living room should also generate sound (door bell), seems logic to me.
  • App integration so multiple people (all residents) also get the door bell notification on their phone, and can answer of course. And a good app, but that’s subjective so I’ll have to take that gamble perhaps.
  • Ability to pick up on holiday but that’s logical I would say. Unless the app would prohibit this outside of the Wifi network.
  • Door relay not necessary, but I suppose it will be integrated anyway.
  • Integrates in Home Assistant, mainly for 24/7 camera access, but possibly more.

Most people seem to want wi-fi, or battery powered, or no interior screen, so this question seems to be less asked.
Bticino has a follow-up product called Classe 300 EOS, based on NetAtmo so HA integration should be OK. But of course I have Bticino so I’m very weary about the camera…The screenshots from the app seem much better, but then again, they always do in brochures.
Niko has quite a stylish system that I like concering easthetics (part nr 510-01501), but I’m not sure it would integrate in HA.
Aiphone JO series is another option I’ve come across. Again I find no confirmation about HA integration. Next to that, looking at a video of the interior screen, it seems very slow in touch response and messy. Night & day with the Niko / Bticino solutions.

Is there anyone here with experience that can guide me a bit?
Niko seems to appeal most, for several reasons (mostly from looking at installation videos on Youtube), but I want to be sure I can get it integrated.

Thanks!
Davy

Hi,

I have the 300 EOS, which means you should only update your inner screen plate, as I understand the two-wire bus and the other systems are fully compatible.
Actually I have two “dumb” monitors connected to the same outer doorbell camera, and all three work together at the same time. I can even call from one monitor to the other (by using the proper jumper pin setup on the back of each plate).
However, Home Assistant results with the 300EOS may vary. I have tried a couple times (I have to admit I didn’t really put much effort). But it is not as easy/streamlined as you could expect. There are some people struggling on the Github thread, but definitely not a quick guide to set this up.

In my case, the quality of the camera and the view is not the best, still it promises to be an 5 megapixel HD camera on the specs…
Some versions of the 300 EOS, also are supposed to be allegedly compatible with Apple HomeKit, but I did not see anyone managing to handle this, nor any further references in the user manuals.
Not sure if this actually helps, or just creates more confusion.
Regards.
