Hello! I’ve been looking around and reading various posts people have about smart locks but I haven’t seen any that have answered a few questions I have.
I have HASS set up on a server of mine and I have a UDM SE with a G4 Doorbell Pro. I’ve been trying to see if I can find a smart lock that can work with HASS, even if I don’t have internet where I can use the fingerprint reader on my doorbell (using a local webhook), or an NFC card on it. etc. I’d love it if the lock itself didn’t do much, but I recognize that most of them will have a keypad that I could just not use.
Something else I’d like is, due to living in a rental, I want to re-use my own key. I can always give the landlord a code or something, but ideally I could just reuse the key I have so as to not cause any further conversations with my landlord.
I don’t currently have any Z-wave or Zigbee products, so if I needed to buy something like that I can, but I definitely don’t want something that requires the internet to access or a separate app to configure.
If that’s all too much to ask for, then I can settle for one or two of those requirements, but I’d be greatly appreciative if I could find something that I can maybe just use an app to connect to wifi, but a HASS integration could then control it so I could avoid using internet entirely.
I’m unsure of exactly what you’re after because you mention landlord, rental situation but from what I can see you have Unifi network with a G4 doorbell in place. If you want a smart lock that is rental-friendly go with the Level Bolt. This device will fit into your existing lock hardware without outward-facing hassle. Your G4 probably exposes an entity for fingerprint sensor that you can use to trigger the lock as needed and existing keys will still work.
I make my recommendation hesitantly because Level (the company) is slow-rolling support for matter into their existing hardware lineup. I have a Level Bolt that they recently upgraded to Matter (this is awesome!) but have refused to do so with a later-generation Level Touch which is hardware compatible but they want me to buy a new lock to get that functionality. Don’t expect more than what is currently advertised for the product you buy.
You are correct in that I’ve got a little Unifi setup and that I’m renting. I don’t mind making changes, but they need to have a key to get in.
The G4 does expose a few things for the reader, so I already have it set up to send a webhook to HA and then ping my phone for testing, but I want to make sure that I can control it locally with HA addons.
If the Level Bolt works without changing my key, and it can be pinged from my HA instance without needing internet, then I think that might be the route to go.
