Smart Plugs Confused

I have had a couple of. TP Link Smart Plugs for a while, and have recently set up a Rasberry Pi 4 with Home Assistant, this was due to having a Govee Bluetooth thermometer where I wanted to link a plug with the thermometer to switch on a heater.

I’m now looking for some more smart plugs but am confused by all the availability. Do I stick with TP Link and get some Tapo 110M? Or do I go the zigbee route? I’ve heard about issues with wifi interference and I do have two access points.

Your thoughts? Experiences? I have heard of matter which is why I’m looking at the 110M.

Your post is confusing. Just tell what characteristics you need for your next plug.

Zigbee also use the same frequece as WIFI 2.4gHz , So do you have Zigbee integration ?
Anyhow, If your prefer Tapo( Which i have alot of ) buy a cheap Tapo P100 it measures Power also.
Beside with Tapo, your can also run their 868MHZ system through the H200 Hub, which doesn’t disturb 2.4gHz, beside it have a stable/strong connection

PS: Your thought about WIFI interference you could experience either ways, as there are lot of causes, so it all depends on your current installation/integrations and your future plans, i.e how many devices, how larger Home( i.e apartment or 3story house )

Apologies, typed up from my phone and I’m not clued up enough in this tech to make a proper judgement hence asking people with experiences on this forum. As far as plugs, i’m after something to turn devices on / off and have this scheduled e.g. phone chargers, lamps, toothbrush, maybe a heater (i’d need a reliable 13AMP for that). Some enrgy monitoring may be nice but that’s not essential.

With all the different standards and talk of wifi congestion, i have no experience of when this becomes an issue, hence highlighting I have two access points and a router in the house, with a number of devices connected, a couple of mobile phones, pc, laptop, amazon fire tv, couple of Alexas.

I understand Zigbee if popular now, but may not be the best option as i need a zigbee antenna and plugs, where as with the Tapo i just need the plugs.

Hi, I don’t currently have any Zigbee set up, only two TP Link HS100 plugs. I dont mind them and I can use them both through Kasa, however as i needed integration with a Govee Thermometer this is why I’ve gone for Home Assistant. I am overtly aware these days of being locked in to a product, and dont want to shell out on something that I need to replace in 5 years time because standards have changed again.

As far as house, we are in a 3 bed end terraced cottage with two floors. I have the main router in the living room downstairs where a pc, laptop and fire tv live. I have an access point on the landing on the other side of the house, and one in the porch/conservatory this is for a Ring Camera (which was a bad idea as I hate subscriptions). All our walls are about a metre thick and stone. The kitchen has an Echo Show, and two of the bedrooms have Echo Dots.

I wasn’t aware of the H200 hub, i’ll take a look. Thank you for you reply.

Have a look at Shelly plug M, it’s really affordable if available where you live.
Congestion depends on other devices around you, if you have single family house it’s likely not an issue like in some apartment building blocks.

It doesn’t sounds like you have to worry about Wifi interference, but there are Guides and recommendations in here.
As you have an access-point also it also doesn’t sounds like your wifi network is “overloaded” either … i have 34wifi devices in 1 Router no additional access-points, beside 2 Zigbee network.
I have decided not to go for Matter , at-least not yet, if you are not so techy , maybe you should not spread out with new “protocols” and integrations , so stick to WIFI Plugs, if you not planning a bigger/larger build
In general you should also think about Ethernet-wired for those device which support it, like i.e your TV , then such is out of the equation of wifi load/disturbance
