I am sure I am posting this in the wrong category so my apologies in advance. I am new to this and not sure what category this would fall in. Only thing I have done is basic integrations into Apple home kit. The reason I am jumping into this home assistant is to hopefully allow my father to be able to stay longer in his home and maintain his independence for as long as possible. Fortunately technology has been amazing in that regard. From door sensors to lights to door locks to vacuum it’s all a blessing. But there is one hurdle I haven’t managed to jump yet and it might be the most important one. He has an electric stove and oven is there a device/sensor/switch that could notify me or him (I don’t live with him)that he left the oven/stove on?
I would send a notification to you when a stove is switched ON, when a stove is ON for XXX minutes. Then you can contact the person about “what are you going to cook? are you still cooking? how was your meal?” etc.
To implement this, you will have to connect a stove to a smart plug supporting a high power. Then this smart plug may provide info about increased consumption.
I was thinking about how to define “stove is left on” and could not find an answer. A stove could be left on even if a person is still in a kitchen, so a person presence (which can be tracked by corresponding presence detection sensors) is not a factor. Also, you cannot account a maximum cooking time since a person can take away a casserole and put a frying pan on the same stove.
mmWave human presence detector facing the stove area + thermometer in kitchen above stove could solve the “is there someone there cooking” question
