Smart switches

Does anyone know of a 3 pole smart switch that uses either matter or zigbee that I can fit 2 of side by side in a US 2 -gang wall box? They also need to function without the load side connected. So effectively in a decoupled mode where they are just being used as smart switches and not mechanical ones. So I’d like to have 6 switches in one US style 2-gang wall box that function solely as smart switches! I do know I can do this with Shelly’s kind of. I currently have a 2PM Gen 3 installed but it will not allow me to do what I want because it is 2 switches! If I was in the UK I’d use an i4 but they need momentary switches and the only ones of those you’ll find in the US only come in single pole! To really do it with shelly I would need to install 3 2PMs and get 2 3-pole standard switches which is clunky it’s a lot of hardware to shove in the box and it would cost between 150 and 200 dollars! Thanks in advance for any assistants you can can provide!

What about sonoff zbm5 switches? Have you considered those

Why you think so? I would be very surprised if they don’t work with traditional switches…

Because I installed one and it didn’t work so I contacted Shelly and they said “i4 requires momentary switches” then I spent a day looking for a dual momentary switch that would work in US wall boxes and they do not exist only singles that are intended for garbage disposals

They unfortunately can’t be used side by side in a 2 gang wall box because on the way the backing plate is made for the face plate! I ended up going with these and they work excellent once configured! amazon.com/dp/B0DNS9S5H4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I don’t have any to try, but it’s strange I can’t find any confirmation for that. Shelly i4 documentation gives:

Shelly i4 100% can work with regular switches or momentary buttons. You lose many functions when they are set to ‘switch’ mode vs ‘button’ mode

I just completed a blueprint for use with momentary buttons, and there are other blueprints that work with it in switch mode.

I use a 4 button, single USA gang, set of momentary buttons.

I don’t know why people seem to think I’m lying about this!! I installed one and it didn’t work! I then contacted Shelly and they told me the i4 needs momentary switches! I apparently did miss that there is a momentary switch from legrand (it’s model lvsw-104 in case anyone is interested) that would have worked but it cost 155 dollars! I spent less than that to do both my kitchen and bedroom combined using Moes zigbee 3 gang switches and shelly 2pms which actually gave me 3 additional buttons for scene control so I’m very happy with this work around. The switches and shelly 2pm do not have a physical connection so they’re effectively working in decoupled mode and it fixed all my issues. The wife got her switches and can’t cut the power so I can still use voice controls win win!

Thank you for replying with another possible solution but u do realize your solution calls for a 4 button momentary switch right? I’ll admit I somehow didn’t find this legrand lvsw 104 switch but thank god I didn’t since it’s 155 dollars! I installed 2 shelly 2pm gen 3s and 3 Moes zigbee 3 gang switches for less than what 1 of those switch costs! So thanks again and hopefully it helps someone but I’m glad I found my fix before you posted this or I’d be in over 400 dollars to do what I did for 150!!

Are you really sure Christopher G reed?

And well, on the inside it is just an esp… If the Shelly firmware actually does have limitations just flash esphome and call it a day :raised_hands:

What you built works fine, of course, if you have mains (110vac in US) power at the switch. In my case, I dont. I needed a solution that is ONLY dry contacts at the wall and the Shelly i4 is back in the wiring closet (where I have 24vdc and 110vac). So the Shelly i4 Gen3 or DC work great for the ‘wired remote switch’ situation. Glad you got a solution that works – you essentially built the exact same solution as my 1x Shelly i4 + dry contact switches from the Legrand only with 2x Shelly 2PM and a mains powered Moes wall switch. Cost is about the same since you paid ~$90 (two 2PMs + Moes switch) and I paid $77 (one i4 + Legrand 4 button)

btw… with the Shelly i4, each switch input is separate… thus doesnt “require” 4 switches, use as many or few as you want.

btw #2… any ‘regular switch’ can be used as a momentary switch, just click it on then off manually (of course not user friendly - I was making a point that a momentary switch is just that) so if Shelly is telling you it wont work, then that person (no surprise) doesnt understand how momentary switches work.

btw #3…, the Legrand 4 button is ~$60 shipped in the US from at least 3 authorized online stores. The 1,2,3 button switches are a bit less $

R U in UK or at least not in the US? I thought from your reply u were here in the states is all… I wish I wasn’t so if you’re not congrats lolol! I ended up using a 2pm in my ceiling fan and 2x 3 button Moes Zigbee switches in my Kitchen and a 2 PM in my bedroom with a Moes 4 Button switch. I ended up being like 145 US all in but I did get the 4 button as an open item from Amazon so that saved like 10 dollars I think! As it turns out the Moes buttons can each do single, double and long press giving 30 possible options to use! lololol That’s way more options than I need but I guess it’s nice to have options if I need them in the future. I do have 110 with common wires in the wall so that makes it a bit easier. It’s my understanding most other countries have 240 at the wall boxes is that not true where u r? Anyway thanks again for your help even though I ended up not needing it hopefully it will help someone else at some point.
