Smart YAML validation

If I am using the YAML editor (automations, scripts) and there’s an error it would be nice to have the editor highlight the source of the error (maybe a squiggly line, eg)

This message is not as helpful

Message malformed: expected a dictionary for dictionary value @ data[‘fields’]

Even better, if the errors could be shown right when I type the YAML.

If you use the VSCode editor the Home assistant helper extension does this (and more).

Similar to MS oder google which indirectly force poeple to use a specific tool just to get a better integration.

If I would install each IDE other sofware titles mention to offer the best support I likely have 5 differnt ones installed, since in real life I do use more softwaretitles but HA.

I would say @jheirtzler isn’t that wrong when asking for a more qualified error message from within HA itself.

Nobody is forcing anybody to do anything. It is just an option. The WTH is still open.

That error is telling you to look for fields: and that you’re providing incorrect data to that key.

Sorry I likely used the wrong word “forcing”, keep in mind that english isn’t my native language. Favour or prefer might have suited better.
