SmartThings Integration – Reintroduce Temperature Entities for Samsung Refrigerators

Feature Request:

In a previous version of the SmartThings integration in HACS, it was possible to read the temperature of Samsung refrigerators. However, after a recent update, this functionality has been removed, and the corresponding entities are no longer available.

I would like to request the reintroduction of this feature, allowing users to monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures again via Home Assistant. This is crucial for ensuring food safety, particularly in situations where external conditions may prevent the refrigerator from maintaining the necessary cooling levels.

Why is this needed?

  • Food Safety & Prevention of Spoilage: A temperature monitoring feature helps ensure that perishable items are stored safely. If a refrigerator fails to maintain the required temperature due to environmental conditions (e.g., high ambient temperatures), early detection can prevent food spoilage.
  • Smart Home Automation: Users previously had access to real-time fridge and freezer temperature data, allowing for automated alerts and actions when temperatures exceed safe thresholds.
  • Restoring Lost Functionality: The ability to monitor refrigerator temperatures was available in an earlier version of the integration but has since been removed. Restoring it would bring back an essential feature for Samsung refrigerator owners using Home Assistant.

Potential Solution & Implementation Ideas:

  • If the SmartThings API still supports retrieving temperature data from Samsung refrigerators, this feature should be re-enabled in the integration.
  • If the removal was due to technical limitations, perhaps an alternative approach can be explored, such as exposing the relevant SmartThings capabilities directly within Home Assistant.
  • Allowing users to configure alerts for temperature anomalies would enhance smart home automation and ensure food safety.

Additional Context:

  • I have searched the Feature Request catalog and have not found an active request addressing this issue.
  • If an existing Feature Request covers this, I am happy to upvote it instead.

This feature is not just about convenience but about preventing food spoilage and ensuring that refrigerators function correctly under varying environmental conditions.

Thank you for your work on Home Assistant!
